Camaguey- Right in the warmt of her own home, the artist Martha Jimenez Perez officially received the acknowledgement of the provincial Government and Culture authorities after being awarded, in Spain, the Mayte Spinola Gold Medal for her outstanding career as a creative.
"Whoever performs her work with the soul, does not care where she is and even loses track of time. And I think that this attitude has characterized my work, my work and, moreover, it has been the driving force behind the fruits of my artistic career”, said the author of The Gossipers, one of her emblematic works, located in the central Plaza del Carmen.
In statements to the press, Jimenez Perez said that the award, given in particular to the value of her sculptural work, was a surprise and at the same time “a stimulus to so many years dedicated to painting, engraving and modeling. The latter is my favorite because when I play it, the pieces I make come out of my heart”.
The maker also reminded the faculty of teachers who taught her the essential technique to carve a path in the world of culture and how the subject of women became a center of her creative essences. She also commented that at present she is involved in dissimilar projects between them, one linked to the work on bronze.

Documentary dedicated to the artist Martha Jimenez will be released in Cuba
Havana- Next Tuesday, March 17, at five in the afternoon, in the theater room of the National Museum of Fine Arts, will be released the documentary of the series Lights and Shadows (27 minutes) dedicated to the potter, sculptress, engraver and painter Martha Jimenez, based in Camaguey.
The audiovisual, made by the Audiovisual Producer of the Office of the Historian of Havana, has the reflections of Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, Historian of Havana; Jose Rodriguez, director of the Office of the Historian of Camaguey; Luis Alvarez Alvarez, National Prize for Literature, and Eduardo Roca Salazar (Choco), National Prize for Fine Arts 2017.
As stated in the documentary, Dr. Leal, Martha Jimenez "is part of that range of female artists who have made very substantive contributions to the female footprint in the art of Cuba" and "tells us about the need to recognize" the role of woman in the history of universal art and in the art of Cuba. "Her speech is a very intense and very authentic gender discourse and, in some cases, very provocative as any expression of true art must be", said Leal.
Also, the Director of the Office of the Historian of the City of Camaguey, Jose Rodriguez, expressed that Martha Jimenez “has stood up for her work, rather than her words” and that the imprint she has left in Camaguey “it has not been for her speech, but for doing and for the high quality in the invoice of everything she creates”. Rodriguez insisted that the artist "is an example because she has been able to change ugly postcards of the city and decorate it with new attributes, not to impress the visitor but to bring new dimensions and new edges to the city she loves so much".
He said that, for example, a sculptural ensemble such as that of the Plaza del Carmen, created by Martha, only exists in Camaguey: “A set that interacts with people, that people appreciate it regardless of the knowledge they have or not of the visual arts, and that sends you, immediately, to Camaguey ”, he concluded.
The writer and essayist Luis Alvarez considered that Martha “is a Creole” of Camaguey, “a woman who does not dress stentorically or loudly; she is not a person who demands her place under the sun, even if she touches it. She is an artist who with her work has come to have an international projection and recognition without having left her city, which is present as soon as she does”.
Choco -considered a true master of Cuban engraving and who graduated, along with Martha, from the first promotion of the School of Art Instructors in the distant 1970s- when analyzing the work of the Camagueyan artist, in relation to the graphic arts, said that "it is a deeply feminine proposal, a work that shows that it is done by a woman and that identifies her as an engraver".
He pointed out that although Martha has an intense work as a sculpture, the fact of carrying other disciplines in parallel, such as engraving, "makes her work amplify and acquires a much larger, more universal dimension", he said.
The documentary, with script and direction of who subscribes these lines, has the general direction of Magda Resik, the realization and photography of Joel Guerra, the original music authored by Angel Quintero and Tomas Rivero, and the production by Yanely Hernandez.

The poem was a gift to divers, who applauded the girl Evelyn Iraola after reading it:
THE SEA AND THE ENVIRONMENT
If talking about environment,and
what we should have to care,
we should mind about the sea
from every land we live in.
Sea, feels in his own body
even someone isn’t concerned
all the garbage with no name
that hurts his own integrity
because the sea is as the life
as it’s the same for man.
The sea works as our lungs
when oxygen is comprised
and the future of our earth
without restraining us
It’s a reflection like
the bluest of our sky.
All the food that is inside
It’s a gift for mankind.
So, the divers with much love
preserve it of all abuses
From the unconsciousness of man.
Any child is like the sea,
if anyone loves not him,
and throws trashes, so he dies
being unable just to breathe.
So let’s go to think about
for keeping it well clean.
That way nature will provide
along with our brave diver,
to keep alive our environment
plenty of oxygen and prettyness
EL MAR Y EL MEDIO AMBIENTE
Si hablamos del Medio Ambiente
y qué debemos cuidar
hay que cuidar a la mar
desde cada continente.
El mar, en su cuerpo siente
-aunque a alguno no le asombre-
tanta basura sin nombre
que le produce una herida.
Pues el mar es de la vida
la misma vida del hombre.
El mar es como un pulmón
donde el oxígeno encierra
el futuro de la tierra
sin ponernos condición.
Es reflejo del balcón
más azul del firmamento
donde todo su alimento
es para el hombre. Y los buzos
lo cuidan de los abusos
del hombre sin sentimiento.
Cualquier niño es como el mar
que cuando alguien no lo quiere
le tira basura, y muere
por no poder respirar.
Vamos todos a cuidar
bien unidos su limpieza
que así la naturaleza
y nuestro buzo valiente
mantendrán el Medio Ambiente
con oxígeno y belleza.

Havana- As part of the proposals of the Ceramic Biennial, the personal exhibition "Riesgo", by Martha Jimenez, is exhibited at the Hispano-American Cultural Center, in the Loynaz Room.
The curator of the exhibition, Yaniel Perez, told Habana Cultural that the artist received the Ceramic Biennial Prize in 2016, and one of the requirements of that award was a Creation Scholarship, consisting of a personal exhibition in the next edition. "Riesgo" presents the same theme and technique as in 2016. It is an installation project of ceramics and metal where risks, challenges and balance are manifested as fundamental elements of human existence, he said.
"Riesgo", by Martha Jimenez, involves the viewer in a tense environment with its dynamic and complex postures, and the need to see life as a controversial spectacle in which everyone plays a specific role. The exhibition deals with the theme of the circus and all the characters are women in different positions and situations, which are not only associated with that circus life but also with the Cuban and Latin American context.
During the meeting, was delivered the book "The difficult thing to be female", by Martha Jimenez, to the Art Gallery "Carmen Montilla", the National Museum of Fine Arts and the National Museum of Contemporary Ceramics. Ceramics and metal works of the series "The Circus" integrate the new proposal of the artist, based in Camaguey, which on this occasion, according to the curator and gallerist Yaniel Perez Guerra, "opportunely transgresses the ceramic installation, as an exercise endowed with valid discursive force and visual harmony".

The public will appreciate "Riesgo" from this Friday at 10:00 a.m. and until February 14, 2019, at the Hispanic American Culture Center, located at Malecon street, Number 17, between Prado and Capdevila, explained the note sent to Adelante Newspaper.

Martha Jimenez: Artistic creation is a beautiful act
Camaguey- Under the question "Can creativity be defined?" The artist Martha Jimenez was interviewed in Punto de Giro program, a Television Camaguey space, where thought is the protagonist and the interaction between the guests is always genuine.
"The artistic creation is a beautiful act, a sublime act, where the person, the man, the artist composes, creates, something that can be real or surreal, based on that experience of his work, his artwork (...) I believe that the artist must work every day, and the artist has that, that you work and you have to inhibit yourself. That system that exists between the soul, the brain and the hands. And that you pose in your brain, that you imagine, and you take it to the paper, to the fabric, to the support that you take it. And then you have to be convinced that you are doing something that fills you up. And what compliments you (...) if there is criteria or not, it is afterwards the result that you see and the acceptance that you have", said the artist Martha Jimenez.
Adds this creative that "the artist himself is the one who has to feel firm, of how he feels fulfilled with the work. Art modifies the soul. I say that since childhood. I hope that children work art from early ages, not only the visual arts, but the music, the theater. It is something wonderful. Here come old people and young people come, so the good thing is that I see them smiles, they feel very good. It is good that human beings participate in artistic work".
Creativity is defined as the process of giving birth to something new and useful at the same time, said the journalist and host Maria del Carmen Fuentes, who interviewed, among other people, the curator, gallerist and art critic Yaniel Perez Guerra, who belongs to the work team of Martha Jimenez's Studio-Workshop.
With absolute lack of creativity there is no one, because creativity is an inherent element of all human beings. Creativity is present in each of the social and personal functions of our existence.
"Creativity should be encouraged from an early age, especially in people who have to develop a certain social function (...) For my work, I have a professional need to create. (...) All people have some creativity, although there are some who are more creative than others", said Yaniel Perez Guerra.
Artistic creation is often made of the same emotion, of the same need that the artist has to communicate something, although in the contemporary world it is already more focused on the client, there are other elements of marketing that are used a lot.
"Art has a more contemporary part that is the client and there is a closer relationship between art and that spectator", this was the criterion of Tania Estrada Jimenez, who also works in the mentioned Studio-Workshop, which is located next to the Plaza del Carmen, in the city of Camaguey.
This program transmitted by Television Camagüey, obtained very good acceptance by the public, who could, through the works of Martha Jimenez, approach the world of creativity.

Martha Jimenez: present in the celebration of the National Hispanic Heritage Month
New York- Martha Jimenez takes part in the celebration of the National Hispanic Heritage Month, when is showcased the work of several artists. This event offers the perfect opportunity to honor the richness and diversity of Latino and Spanish culture.
It was asked to some artists to name a Hispanic or Latino visual or musical artist who has had a positive influence on their artistic practice and their life, and why. For the exhibition, among other works, was selected the piece Night Breakfast, by Martha Jimenez, a mixed technique on canvas.
“The list can be endless, however, there are voices, such as the Buena Vista Social Club, which for me stand out as revealing, unique and stimulating in the Latin American panorama. I am attracted by their sense of rhythm, freshness, and grace when addressing themes of everyday life. Their strength, musicality, encouragement move me, as does the fact that they are the true ambassadors of the Latin feeling”, said Martha Jimenez.
One of the irrefutable benefits of living in a multicultural society is the constant exposure to an array of global traditions. Currently, 52 million people or 16.7 % of America’s national population is Hispanic and Latino.
Paula Sayago Lundin, María de Echevarría, Fiz Dominguez, Martha Jimenez, Patricia Queiruga, Pablo Serrano, Nora Pineda, and Ignacio Corral, hail from far and wide in the Spanish-speaking world.
Their work is firmly planted in the artistic traditions of their native countries: Chile, Argentina, Spain, Mexico, and Cuba. They represent different generations and work in a variety of styles and mediums. But there is also an aesthetic that brings these artists together.

Martha Jimenez participates in collective exhibition at United States
Camagüey- A collective exhibition, where the artist Martha Petrona Jimenez Perez takes part, will be open to the public from October 13 to November 2 at Agora Gallery, located at 530 West 25th Street, New York, United States. The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 18, between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.
Creating a sizable body of work that ranges over a variety of media -from paintings to sculptures, to ceramics, to etchings- Martha Jimenez is interested in the anthropology underlying the works she makes as much as with the formal experience of looking at her art.
Her overt allusions to canonical works and styles, often minglinf several art-historial inspiration into one piece, reveals a willingness to examine how art occupies a relational space in the modern world, as opposed to the ways works were related to in earlier times. Nonetheless, however firmly rooted and informed by works by works from a previous time, the importance of Jimenez's oeuvre lies in the way she recreates these visual precedents, allowing her contemporary intuition to comment on what might otherwise become stolid, academic copies.
In “Untitled 2”, for example, history becomes a kind of template for the artist's work, a record of endeavor that the contemporary mind can freely enter into (and modify) in accordance with a more experiential logic. The jester-like figure Jimenez depicts won't remind you of anything, though you'll feel connected to it instantly.
Martha Jimenez has been awarded in several national and international competitions and holds the UNESCO Prize since 1997. She is a member of LASA (Association of Latin American Studies), UNEAC and has the Fidelio Ponce de Leon Distinction.

The pilgrims of Martha Petrona Jimenez: tribute to a writer from Camaguey
Camaguey - The artist Martha Petrona Jimenez, Unesco Prize for the Best Architectural Ensemble, paid homage to the poetess Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaneda, on the 203th anniversary of her birth, with an exhibition of prints and colographies, shown at the Nicolas Guillen Gallery, at the headquarters of the newspaper Adelante.
With the title The Pilgrims of Martha, it is alluded to the pseudonym of La Peregrina, used by the poetess and playwright based in Spain, one of the reasons why part of the literary criticism tried to deny her Cubanism, a condition vindicated with extensive research in the the last decades.
Martha Jimenez, through her artistic career, has been confirmed as the legitimate heir of La Avellaneda, with her antipatriarchal discourse, from different supports and techniques of the visual arts. This time she honors La Avellaneda, who was born on March 23, 1814, in then Puerto Principe, now Camaguey.
"These sensual women, with sweet and daring postures and expressions, could also be this type of woman who tried to defend Tula in her work," said curator Juan Carlos Mejias Ruiz.
"This homage is also extended to those women who, in essence, have defended their right to fight for what they want, and have bequeathed in their space and time an artistic universe that has become heritage of Cuba and humanity", said the specialist.

Newspaper Adelante welcomes exhibition of engravings and colographies by Martha Petrona Jimenez Perez
Camaguey - An exhibition of engravings and colographies of the artist Martha Petrona Jimenez Perez has been inaugurated at the newspaper Adelante, and pays homage to the celebration of the birth of the famous poetess Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaneda.
The Provincial Book and Literature Center, the Acana Publishing House and the Adelante newspaper decided to pay homage to the writer, with the tactical agreement that the artist Martha Jimenez is an excellent choice for this, said the specialist Juan Carlos Mejias Ruiz, of the Provincial Council of the Fine Arts.
Martha, who already harvests the fruits of several years of hard work, and has the recognition of the artistic world inside and outside the country, has made a career with her most habitual figurations. Her work includes women where you can guess a casualness that makes them unique. Perhaps these sensual women, of postures and sweet and daring expressions, could also be this type of woman who tried to defend Tula in her work.
This homage also extends to those women who, in essence, have defended their right to fight for what they want and have bequeathed - in the space and time that belongs to them - an artistic universe that has become heritage of Cuba and the humanity.

Martha Petrona Jimenez Perez was invited to a collective exhibition of female potters
Camaguey- The artist Martha Petrona Jimenez Perez was invited to participate in the collective exhibition of female ceramists, entitled Ceramic is a woman's name?, opened to the public this March 8th in the Midas Gallery, of the Cuban Association of Artisans Artists (ACAA), in Camaguey. There can be appreciated the artworks "Twins", "Hope" and of the series "The Dinner" and "Tribute to the stool".
Ana Elia Gutierrez Fernandez, Sandra Navarro Valdes, Belkis Alvarez Leon, Annia Rosa Perez Olivera and Albertina Maria Cortada Malfa also participated in the exhibition.
"Pottery has a large development in this city, many people have participated in the development of this manifestation, most of them are men. However, it is quite difficult to talk about the ceramics of Camaguey without taking into account the presence of women. They have played an essential role and their protagonism has become greater, as well as their dynamism and significance in this city context. In that sense, six women ceramists have gathered, not only to celebrate International Women's Day, but also to celebrate their artistic endeavors", said curator, Yoelxy Pilliner Lopez, in his words to the catalog.
"Morphologically the word ceramic is feminine, as well as the artistic language of these women. Each one, in its own way, creates her space, asserts the name of women in the artistic ceramics of this city; in addition, they give rise to reflections and new concerns, without limiting to submissively examine, about the importance and role of women in a male-dominated manifestation", he added.

Martha Petrona Jimenez Perez invited to collective exhibition "A tremendous animal II"
Camaguey- The artist Martha Petrona Jimenez Perez was invited to take part in the collective exhibition "A tremendous animal II", inaugurated in the Julian Morales Gallery, located at the UNEAC headquarters in Camaguey.
"The work of Martha Jimenez, self-referential and with a generic and identitary complement, flirts with the domestic and socially active view of women, while identifying with seductive, sensual and erotic women," said the curator and critic of art Pavel Alejandro Barrios Sosa, in his words to the catalog.
To that magical and complicated being, fragile as a Venus without arms and at the same time with the incredible force to transcend ages, is dedicated the project "A tremendous animal II".
"In order to approach a subject so dense, complex and delicate I find no other curatorial resource more successful than interdisciplinarity. To the particularities of the speeches of eight local artists of the fine arts, I add, as a complement, several poetic texts that lead groups of works or they marry with them in individual way. The incidental music and some sequences of Cuban cinema try to complete a plural vision", added Barrios Sosa.

Camaguey- A performance inspired by the sculptural set Gossipers, authored by the ceramist based in Camagüey, Martha Petrona Jimenez Perez, took place in the Studio-Workshop Larios, located in that city.
The work was presented in the context of the fifth edition of Project 8 + 1, by the artist Leonardo Pablo Rodriguez Martinez. This edition of 8 + 1, "Flowers on the Wall" presented nine creators from Camaguey, some new or emerging in the world of art, along with others with great national and international recognition.
In the exhibition, eight women showed their work from the artistic point of view; while Martha was chosen to present her work from an audiovisual approach. This is the first time that the artist enters with her work and as director in the performance, as a manifestation of the visual arts. This proposal was produced - in addition - by the artist Daylen Jimenez Gonzalez.
The performance was intended to address various moments of the imaginary life of the Gossipers. These well-known characters from the Plaza del Carmen had a spiritual exchange with the audience in the show, from a different approach alternative, through shared prophecies with the present persons.
This exhibition of art proposes a change of formal, aesthetic and conceptual visuality within the work of these women. It was conceived for the experimentation of the creators, within their own works. It also resulted in an interest channel between the curator and the artists.
The exhibition will be available to the public until March 3, when the performance will be presented again and these well-known characters from the imagination of Martha Petrona Jimenez Perez will come to life once again.

This show comes to interact with the creative dynamics that have elevated the work of Jimenez Perez. Havana - The outstanding artist Martha Jimenez, resident in Camaguey, motivates expectations in the Cuban capital with a exhibition of painting and pottery that suggests female power and inner freedom through a mythological animal: the goat.

The Cuban contemporary art is enriched and exalted with the paintings of Martha Jimenez, who gives us this time a sample of watercolors with ink drawing on cardstock, with similar formats.
The curator, the specialist Yaniel Perez Guerra, said that "once again Martha Jimenez clothes herself with her ingenuity, her artistic flight and mastery of the craft, and take this time the goats as a pretext to refer to issues such as interpersonal relationships, protection, defense, shyness and sacrifice".
Admire her work causes a great visual pleasure, so the doors of this wonderful personal exhibition are open to the public, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Marcos A. Tamames in his article "The Cuban and me" expresses the feeling of the artist ... "Every creator has a mission to accomplish, every artist dreams again and again with the work that will legitimize him in the history of art, but if this work can not find a human being who -dazzled- wants to bequeath or share it with others, so much effort is doomed to failure".
"We must open sensitivity to the immediate environment, you need to listen to the time in which we live, and to walk through the land that welcomes us as her children, only from this perspective I encountered the Cuban and at the same time, the contemporary. I hope I have not disappointed, with this confession, the opinion of the critic and the history. From here I know that my works are no longer mine when other people approach to them".

Camaguey- The personal exhibition "The secret of my goats", by the artist Martha Petrona Jimenez Perez, was inaugurated on Tuesday October 18 at the Amalia Gallery, at the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods, subsidiary in Camaguey.

They are equidistant works according to plastic quality; and they are independent, in terms of composition, but their languages move in similar orbit by the fact of being based on the same content.
The specialist also said that "Advent" is certainly a laudable delivery, authentic, especially prepared in a time of unquestionable creative maturity. It is therefore a very brave proposal, pulsing the dimension of an artist with exemplary probity of art.
The Santa Cecilia Convention Center, formerly building of the Popular Meritorious Society of Santa Cecilia, is located near the Church of Our Lady of La Merced and the Birthplace Museum of Ignacio Agramonte. Currently it is subordinated to the Office of the Historian of the City (OHCC).
This building was designed to give the Popular Society of Santa Cecilia a place for meetings and other social actions. According to specialized literature in history of architecture, it is one of the best examples of the eclectic style in this city, with remarkable classicist ornamentation inside and outside.

Without losing the line: artistic proposal of Martha Jimenez in Camaguey
Camaguey- The artist in Camaguey, Marta Jimenez, knows where the beauty lies, needing the creator's treatment to pass to posterity. From her hands, modeled in clay or from the wonder of the brush on the canvas, sprout as in irrepressible flow magnificent works, thanks to art placed in them by this woman, simple and talented.
Her latest release is an exhibition that she called "Without losing the line" and which is open at the Gallery Julian Morales, at the UNEAC Headquarters in Camaguey.
Martha is characterized by her intensive search for new ways to assume fine arts. Not satisfied with her fabulous sculptures that adorn the Plaza de El Carmen and other heritage sites of the Villa, she found in engraving another way to express herself and she is still embracing the drawing -developed from 1965- as essential in their daily action, to sketch out and to create works.
Who visits the exhibition "Without losing the line", will admire not only the beauty of the female figure and its external trappings, also will realize how valuable potentials still flow from Martha, who uses techniques, dominated by her, either the modeling in clay, or from the manifest challenge of canvases and rigid matrices to achieve beautiful engravings.
This artist based in the province of Camaguey has known extraordinary successes, such as being awarded by UNESCO and to show their collections in famous galleries in several countries. Not a few specialists -inside and outside the Island- have dedicated spaces in their chronicles, to praise the source that is her talent.
Still, Marta Jimenez is not puffed up and with its simplicity as always, continues laborious and fertile, giving to his work and to Camaguey sufficient reasons for pride.
